On Saturday 25th April the City of Edinburgh U16 Kings and Portoburgh U16 Bulls teams clashed in the inaugural Portobello Community Sports Challenge when they competed against each other at their respective sports. The fun U16 event came about following a discussion between Derek Ferguson and the Bulls’ coach Robert Shepherd. The main aim was to bring together two groups of sportsmen from within the Portobello Community. The challenge consisted of three parts, a game of basketball followed by a game of touch rugby then back to the rugby club for some pizza and socialising.
As expected, the Kings won the basketball and the Bulls took the honours at the rugby with both teams showing a high level of skill and determination in both sports. Parents’ and coaches complimented the players on their level of skills, particularly in their “non-specialised” sports, whilst noting how many of the skills are transferrable between the two sports. All in all a great day and much fun was had. Thanks to all the coaches and parents for coming along and supporting the event.
