Weekend preview 14th and 15th December

Saturday 14th December

On Saturday all of our teams are on the road in the last National League fixtures of 2013, the ladies to Paisley and the men to Perth and Glasgow. The Cadette Women have a weekend off.

First up are the Senior Women at 11:20 against St Mirren at the Lagoon. All games are now a must win for the Kats as the Lady Rocks are undefeated so far this season, so a win against St Mirren would set the SW up nicely for their game in January against Rocks. In their previous two encounters this season with St Mirren (once in the league and once in the Cup), Kats have come out on top so they will be hopeful of another victory but St Mirren are always a tough proposition and Ben, Brian and the players will take nothing for granted. They should have a full squad this weekend.

The Cadet Men will feature next as they head for Perth Academy for a 12:45 tip off against Perth. The last meeting was a 19 point victory for Kings and it would be a major disappointment to coaches Steven and Mark if this tie didn't go the same way. Still no Jamie Campbell but with his cast being removed on Christmas Eve, hopefully he will be back to light training after the holidays. Adam Stobbart is still out with a broken finger and won't be back until mid-January.

Then at 14:45 the Junior Men will play Perth, unfortunately still without the injured Findlay Wood, who will hopefully be fighting fit again for the New Year. Kings will expect a tough game as the Perth team have had some good results latterly and only lost by 5 to Falkirk last week.

The Junior Women are next up at 15:20 against St Mirren at the Lagoon. Coaches Emma and Tracey hope to have a full squad with Eilidh McClure coming back from injury. Kats have had a flying start to the season and are at the top of the league undefeated. Last time the teams met at the Lagoon it was an 8 point victory for Kats so it should be a close game.

The Senior Men will be in Glasgow University's Stevenson Building at 15:35 for a replay of the 1 point thriller in October. Coach Doug Reilly's new look team have come together a lot since that match in October and they will be hoping to get a more comfortable win. Kings are still without the injured Steven Dickson but will welcome back Audrius Ciapas and Shawn Swartz.

Sunday 15th December

The Junior Men will make the short journey to the Crags to play Boroughmuir Blaze in the National League Division 2 at 13:20. They will be hoping to repeat their earlier season victory over Blaze and move up the table. The league has an odd look about it as Kings have played less games than two of the three teams above them but with just one loss they are in reality only just behind the league leaders Edinburgh Lions who have yet to lose. The teams will meet at the end of January so that will go some way to deciding the destination of the Division 2 title. Can coach Rhys win back to back titles in his second year as coach?

Sunday also sees the next round of the Regional Development League so all our younger teams are in action. The Club is proud to be able to offer competition opportunities to so many at these younger age groups and we regularly field more teams than any other Club. We also completely support the principle of these leagues being a development league and the coaches will do everything in their power to avoid beating weaker teams by ridiculous scores. In the leagues where we have two teams we will enter two equal ability teams so the A and B in the teams' names is not indicative of team strength. Whilst this mean sometimes lead to the teams losing to opposition who load all their "best" players into one team, the Club feels it gives more players a chance to develop.

Good luck to all our players over the weekend and if you can't make the games, you will be able to follow their progress on Facebook. If you are at a game and you see no one posting the scores then please let us know how the team is doing.
