League Preview 23rd/24th February

This weekend sees the two Edinburgh based basketball teams go head to head in the National League at Portobello High School as City of Edinburgh host Boroughmuir Blaze.

First up are the Cadet Men at 11am where the ever improving Kings men will be hoping to better the 15 point defeat they suffered in the Cup against Boroughmuir. This will be tough game against the undefeated league leaders and will need every Kings boy to be in top form. The Junior Men are on at 1pm and this is a crucial match up as last week's Kings' victory over Tayside mean that this league could go to the head to head results.

The Senior Men are on at 3pm and they will be looking to continue their fantastic run of form that has seen them only suffer one defeat this season in November. A victory against Blaze will set up a fantastic winner takes all season finale game on 1st March against Fury (provided Fury also win their games against Glasgow Storm and St Mirren).

The women's National League teams are on the road to Falkirk, with the Cadette Women playing at 2pm, Junior Women at 3.50pm and the Senior Women at 5.40pm.

The Cadettes will be hoping to get back to their winning ways and reverse the 17 point loss they suffered against Fury in the first game of the season. This young team have shown lots of improvement since then and will be hoping to consolidate their position in the league ahead of the play-offs.

The Junior Women will be expected to take care of bottom placed Fury without too much trouble and continue to keep the pressure on league leaders St Mirren. Similarly the Senior Women will be hoping to bounce back from their agonising loss last week against Rocks and keep the league neck and neck between Polonia, Rocks and Kats.

Our younger Club members are also in action on Sunday with teams from U12s through to U16s taking part in the last round of the Regional Development League.

Some of the U14 games are listed as friendlies so those leagues are finished at least for some teams.

This is the first year that we have entered 2 U14 girls teams in the league so it has been very much a development year with Kats A winning 2 games from 6 and Kats B winning 1 games from 5. This weeks see the teams catch up with the rest of the league as other teams play friendlies.

This Sunday at Holy Rood High School the two teams play each other, followed by Kats A against Stirling Knights and Kats B against Falkirk Fury.

The U14 boys are also playing friendlies with Kings A playing Falkirk Fury and Stirling Knights, Kings B against Blaze A and West Lothian. These games are all at Stevenson College. There hasn't been final confirmation of which two teams will go through to the National Challenge but the league table has Kings A in second place and Kings B in fourth place.

The Under 12s are playing at St Augustine's High School, the girls in particular have done really well this season and are sitting in second place in the league with only 2 losses out of 8 games. The girls will be playing West Lothian Wolves, Polonia Phoenix and East Lothian. The boys are playing Blaze, Edinburgh Lions and West Lothian Wolves.

The Under 16s are playing at Tynecastle High School with the girls up first. The girls have won 4 from 6 games and again have played 2 games less than anyone else in the league so they are doing really well to be in 3rd place despite this. They will be playing Fury and Polonia on Sunday. The boys have won 7 from 10 games are are in second place in the league, they will be playing Dunfermline Reign and Blaze on Sunday.
