The Kings Senior Men put in a stellar performance against Falkirk Fury on Saturday at Portobello to record a 90-60 win and will progress to the Cup finals.
As Head Coach Doug Reilly reports:
"Still smarting from our loss just over month ago, there were a number of players looking to even the score.
In addition, having lost at this stage last year, plus the opportunity to play against an Olympian, the stage was set for a monumental game.
From the outset, the players executed our game plan and played some of the best basketball of the season so far.
Our key was to play strong defence which enabled us to transition into offence.
It is always difficult to pick out individuals in a team sport and even more so when everybody chose to play so well. So I wont.
Our two best performances of the season have been the Quarter & Semi final of the cup and we need to make sure we use these as a spring board for the rest of the season and in particular the final."
The Womens Team will also be progressing to the finals after seeing off St Mirren 63-54, their second win over the Saints in two weeks. Unfortunately the U16 Men were not so lucky, losing 64-79 to top-of-the-table Boroughmuir.
On Sunday, the Junior Women had a fruitful trip to Abroath, coming out winners by 49-40 as Head Coach Brian Findlay reports:
Junior Women overcome Tayside to reach the Cup Final
"The Junior Women team made their way to Arbroath for the 2nd time in 3 weekends for their Cup semi final against Tayside.
After a close 2 point victory 2 weeks ago, the Junior Women had to be up for a fighting response from Tayside. An early 10 point lead slipped to see the girls only 2 up at the quarter.
The next 2 quarters saw the girls stretch to a comfortable 20 point lead at the end of the 3rd. Good defence during this time held Arbroath to only 5 points in each of these quarters.
Some excellent work in defence also kept Tayside's Scotland forward Van Wees down to 9 points in the game, but sloppy defence in the last quarter, allowed Arbroath to bring the gap down to 9 points at the end of the game.
Double figures for Hannah, Kirsten and Kirsty with Geraldine chipping in with a valuable 6 points and doing a good job on the quick Tayside guard - Black.
The girls are really looking forward to meeting St Mirren in the Final, and they deserve to be there. Well done."
