Weekend Preview 22nd and 23rd February

This weekend sees most of our teams take to the floor with the exception of our Senior Lothian League sides who played midweek and our Junior Men Division 2 side who are finished their league campaign and await the play off fixtures.

First up on Saturday at Portobello are the Cadette Women who are hoping to build on last week's victory over Highland Bears with a repeat of their early season win over Falkirk Fury. Kats will once again be missing Rosanna Pollock. Its all about improving their position in the league for the play offs for both teams so will be a hard fought game.

Next at Portobello are the Senior Women who play third place Tayside Musketeers. Kats will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the surprise 2 point defeat they suffered in the league away to Tayside as they must win every remaining game to clinch the league. The teams met in the Cup semi-final and Kats won by 6 points so this should be a close and exciting game but lets hope the score goes our way.

The Junior Women also play Tayside at Portobello in a top of the table clash. Kats will be hopeful of taking one more step towards securing the league crown as both the previous games against Tayside have gone their way by a healthy margin. A victory in this game will give the Kats the chance to clinch the league in next weekend's game against Polonia but coaches Emma and Tracey will be making sure the girls focus on the game at hand on Saturday!

The last game at Portobello on Saturday sees the U14 Boys get their first chance to play in front of a home crowd at Portobello in the new U14 Scottish Cup tie against St Mirren. Whilst Kings got a comprehensive first round win against Blaze, St Mirren are untested in this tournament as yet having had a walkover in the first round.

The Cadet Men, Junior Men and Senior Men are all at Dunfermline on Saturday to play Reign.

The Cadet Men are first up and have the toughest task as Reign are the undefeated league leaders at this age group. Kings will be hopeful of an upset as they pushed Reign all the way in their last meeting and only lost out by 7. Coaches Steven and Mark will be pleased to welcome back Adam and Daniel but will still be missing Alex and Jamie.

The Junior Men should have an easier task with Dunfermline yet to record a victory in this league. However Kings will be without coach Jim Wright who after playing in his return game for the Lothian League team was unfortunate enough to suffer a suspected ruptured achilles tendon.

The Senior Men should also have a fairly straightforward game with Reign Senior Men also yet to record a victory and with the last meeting resulting in a 36 point victory for Kings. Kings will be without Shawn but otherwise should be at full strength on the playing side but will have coach Craig Nicol in charge as Doug is away.

On Sunday the U14 Girls start their Scottish Cup game with a visit to Arbroath to play Tayside Musketeers, both teams have had a bye straight into the quarter finals due to the low numbers of teams in the competition so coach Emma will not have much information to go on about Tayside but will have a full strength Kats side.

The U12s, U14 boys and U16 boys are all in action on Sunday in the latest round of the Regional Development League.

The Under 14s will be making a return to Portobello after their Cup game on Saturday as all the U14 boys RDL games are at Portobello this time round. We have 2 teams in the U14 RDL which are currently lying in 2nd and 3rd place in the league. Both of our teams are up against the undefeated Stirling Knights which will be a tough game.

Kings A play Blaze B which should hopefully be an easier game with Blaze only have recorded one victory so far in the league (a 20-0 victory awarded over a short staffed East Lothian) and both Kings teams having straightforward wins over Blaze B previously. Kings B will face West Lothian Wolves, the last time the teams met was a thrilling one point victory for Kings, not good for the coach's blood pressure!

The Under 12s have 2 boys' teams and one girls' team. The girls are very strong and have only lost one game this season. They play some tough games on Sunday though and will have to be at their best to beat Wolves, Polonia and Dragons. The last couple of games against Polonia in particular have gone to the wire and have been 4 point and 1 point victories for Kats.

The two under 12 boys teams are sitting mid-table and play Lions and Knights. Stirling Knights are the league leaders so these will be tough games. With Lions struggling for player numbers their last few games have been conceded due to not having the minimum number of players.

The Under 16 Boys are also in action in the RDL on Sunday and will face Gracemount Panthers and Reign at the Crags. The first game against Gracemount is a friendly but the second game against Reign is in the league. The last time the teams met Kings were awarded the tie due to a no-show by Reign so the teams haven't actually played each other.

Good luck to all our teams and remember the Tuck Shop will be open for business on Saturday and Sunday!
