Kings Senior Men v Blaze – Scottish Cup Quarter Final

This game gave the senior men the opportunity to avenge the early season league defeat and would also be a measure of the progress made with this season’s new group.

The major analysis from the 1st game was that if we defended more robustly then we had a much greater chance of winning and so it proved.

The first quarter set the tone for the game with everybody stepping up to minimise defensive penetration and limiting Boroughmuir to two points. We also moved the ball well in transition and also in our half court sets, ending the quarter with a 15 – 2 lead.

The second quarter started in a similar fashion until midway through when the game stopped whilst Boroughmuir player Rob Jansson needed treatment for what turned out to be a torn rotator cuff injury. Both teams then struggled to find any rhythm during the rest of the quarter, with the highlight being a couple of thunderous dunks by Audrius. Score at half-time 27-10.

The third quarter had more offensive action with both teams scoring more freely, with Craig Reilly hitting a couple of threes and Simon beginning to get into his rhythm. End of Quarter 47 – 23.

The final quarter belonged to Simon as he continued to hit from both inside and outside and scoring 10 of his 24 point total. Final score 63-39 to Kings.

As noted in the Evening News, our ruthless defence in the first half was the significant reason for this win and will need to be at the same level when we face St Mirren in the semi final.
