Another exciting weekend of basketball as at this part of the season every game is vital whether for challenging for the title or to get the best league position going into the play-offs.
The Senior Men kick things off this weekend with a trip on Friday to Stirling to take on the conquerors of Falkirk Fury, Stirling Knights. Coach Doug Reilly and his men will be hoping to avoid the same result and will give Stirling the respect they deserve after their win last week. With second place Falkirk playing third place Troon this could be a key weekend in determining the winners of the men's league.
The Senior Women's weekend is just as crucial with the first four team's playing each other. Kats are at home on Sunday to Glasgow Rocks and will be hoping to make up for their slip against Rocks in their last meeting when they lost by 4. Polonia will be looking to keep the pressure on league leaders Kats when they play St Mirren but will be mindful of the two defeats they have suffered against St Mirren this season.
In the Junior Men's league Kings take on the undefeated Tayside Musketeers in Arboath on Saturday. Will they manage to go one better than the last time they met when despite being ahead for most of the game, Kings let Tayside back in to win by 1 point? If Tayside win this fixture, they should be a dead cert for the league title, so Kings will be going all out to win and keep the league alive.
In the Junior Women's league Kats will be looking for the win against Glasgow Rocks at Portobello to keep the pressure on league leaders St Mirren as the gap opens up between the top 2 teams and the rest. They will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten run against Rocks this season.
The Cadet Men are also off to Arbroath and at this point are playing for the play off positions as it looks unlikely that league leaders Boroughmuir Blaze will slip up in enough of their remaining fixtures to be caught. However there are 4 teams within 2 points of each other between second place and fifth place so it is still all to play for in the playoff places.
The Cadette Women are similarly playing for the play off places as the league will be won by either Glasgow Rocks or St Mirren. It will be a tough game for the Cadettes against the league leaders Rocks but coach Kara Gillies will be looking for an improvement in the last two defeats against Rocks.
The Junior Men Division 2 team will have their fingers crossed on Sunday as they travel to St Andrews Secondary in Glasgow as this is the venue where the teams turned up to find the hall closed and the games were cancelled at the last minute. Basketballscotland have checked and double checked and they assure us that it is all good to go this time! The Kings boys will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the league with only one defeat from 8 games. They will be playing Lanarkshire and Renfrew Rocks.
