One amazing day...

At a packed Pleasance, City of Edinburgh BC showcased some of the best in community and club basketball – topped off with a valiant and hard fought game from our Senior Men against the Glasgow Rocks.

The Kings were always in it – despite Simon Flockhart being sidelined for a significant portion of the game following a bloody encounter early in the first quarter. We ran things close ultimately falling just short with a 61-72 result. Lee Reilly top scored with 23 points. The Rocks now move on the BBL Trophy quarter finals. A full match report can be found on scotsman.com.

Earlier in the day, we were fortunate to have our friends from Lothian Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club join us for a showcase of the wheelchair game, which also featured GB U22 internationalist Steven Ross. Thanks to Shirley-Anne Duff and Terry Gillan for all their help.

Over 100 club members took part on the day, including our U10s Sunday Hoops as mascots for the seniors – who looked brilliant decked out in their purple BBL Trophy t-shirts, thanks to Val Gray, Jenny Simpson, Derek Ferguson and Neil McClory for looking after them so well.

The Under 16s boys and girls had two very close games ably reffed by Chris and Marta. The U12s and U14s all looked exhausted but happy after their tournament, thanks to Jim, Elaine and Brian for refereeing, the Table Officials and to all the coaches who helped with the teams. We were also very fortunate to have not one but three fantastic photographers there to record the day for us in Paul McBrierty, Katie McBrierty and Paul Storie.

The whole day was ably supported by a small army of tremendous volunteers who did the club proud in organising a fantastic day of basketball. Thanks to everyone who helped make the day go so well and in particular to all the coaches, officials, statisticians, tuck shop and ticket desk helpers plus Kara Gillies, Emma Rodgers, Chloe Lodge, Trevor Lodge, Gillian Wingate, James Matthews, Garreth Lodge (#7 for the seniors) and Clare Mackle.

Finally thanks to our sponsors and supporters in assisting us in making the day a huge success.

If you were there and got the basketball bug come down and find us at Porty – hope to see you soon!

Many thanks to Paul and Katie McBrierty for capturing the event on camera:
