Last Saturday saw the club make it four wins out of four against Falkirk Fury!
Particularly impressive was the turnaround by the Senior Men after their disastrous Cup semi-final against Fury before Christmas. The men started strongly with a well controlled first quarter lead of 23-11. It was more of the same in the second quarter, with sharp 3-point shooting from Paddy, Craig and Lee contributing to a 42-30 lead at half time.
However Fury fought back in the third and then the fourth bringing the score back to 62-60 with 4:30 still on the clock. However, excellent work from Lee, Edgars and Simon stretched the lead back to 10, leading to a final 79-61 win.
Top scorer was Paddy with 24, with Edgars on 17 and Simon on 15. See Sandy Sutherland’s full review of the game here.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Senior Women also came away with the spoils against Falkirk. In a closely contested game over the first three quarters, the scores were still close at 35-34 with seven minutes to go. The women pulled away in the last part of the game to record a 51-40 victory, with Emma top scoring on 22 points.
The Cadet Men also maintained their unbeaten record this season with a 59-42 win over Fury. The first half was closely contested with Kings going in 21-24 down. In the third quarter, the boys were down by 7 at one point but fought back strongly to lead by 5 at the end of the quarter. The final quarter proved decisive - with the boys winning the quarter 18-6. Top scorer was Rian Neill with 20 points.
Lastly, the Junior Men also won against Fury, who had beaten them twice previously this season. Going down 0-10 at the start it didn’t look good but the boys battled back to end the first half down only 24-28. The start of the third saw a different performance from the boys as they built a lead of 52-41, with Matt taking control on the offence.
With some ill-discipline and some foul trouble from Fury, the Kings easily held out for a 62-50 win. Top scorer was Matt on 30 points with all players contributing well.
Let’s hope the Cadette Women can keep up the winning streak tonight against Falkirk (6:45 pm Tuesday 24th at Portobello).
