Cadette Women Have a New Head Coach

David Sarnowski, the Youth Development Manager at basketballscotland, has joined the staff of the City of Edinburgh Cadette Women’s team. Coach Sarnowski takes over from Donna Finnie who guided the Cadette women to a Scottish Cup in the 2006-2007 season.

“I have big shoes to fill. Donna is an amazing coach and she has set the bar extremely high,” Sarnowski said.

This marks a return to coaching in Scotland for Sarnowski. His first action in Edinburgh took place during 1998-99 when he worked alongside Finnie delivering coaching session throughout the city for Edinburgh Leisure. After returning to the United States, Sarnowski continued to develop as a coach working camps for Dick Bennett at the University of Wisconsin and Rick Majerus at the University of Utah. The expertise of these Final Four coaches propelled David into his first full time post as an assistant coach at Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI. Under head coach Bobbi Vandenberg David continued to develop his philosophy and helped guide the V-Hawks to their best season in school history. After two years at Viterbo, Coach Sarnowski moved on to NCAA Division I school Northern Illinois University where he was an assistant to Carol Hammerle. Sarnowski explained, “I have had the good fortune to work with some fantastic coaches as I have developed. My game has grown through my work with them, and I look forward to putting my own philosophy to the test.”

This season plans to be an exciting one and Sarnowski is calling for fans. “We are going to play an exciting and fast style of basketball. It is going to be great to watch and I hope the city will come out to support these great young women as they give their best!”
